Rezone 2026

Based on a recommendation from the Town Council, the Elwood Planning Commission has undertaken the task of evaluating the Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map to revise them in line with the town's General Plan (adopted October 2024). That effort has led to significant changes to the zoning designations throughout the town, and the revisions are now being presented to the Elwood community and the public at large as a proposed amendment to the Zoning Ordinance and Map.

UPDATE: Due to administrative oversights and land ownership changes, the Planning Commission conducted a land-use review of 27 parcels in their public work meeting on July 7, 2026, recommending the rezoning of said parcels. Notice has been given regarding a public hearing to be held on September 1, 2026, to consider these changes, which are reflected in the Elwood Zoning Map - 2nd Proposed Amended, dated 8/17/2026. The map and the public hearing notice can be found in the "Related Documents" section below.

Please note that owners of real property affected by this amendment (i.e. the 27 parcels being considered at the public hearing on September 1, 2026) may object in writing to the inclusion of their property in said amendment, and written objections must be received by September 11, 2026. Objections to the rezoning of properties other than the 27 identified in the public hearing notice will not be considered by the Planning Commission because they were part of the original public hearing, and they will not, therefore, be included in the documentation provided to the Town Council.
